Gen Z leverages ChatGPT in exposing corrupt Kenyan leaders

By |

Following the success of the protests, with President William Ruto withdrawing the bill, they are now protesting against corruption in governance and have created tech tools such as Corrupt Politicians GPT and SHIF GPT.

Besides staging nationwide #RejectFinanceBill demonstrations across the country, Kenya's young people have taken their demand for accountability a notch higher by leveraging their expertise in information and technology.

Following the success of the protests, with President William Ruto withdrawing the bill, they are now protesting against corruption in governance and have created tech tools such as Corrupt Politicians GPT and SHIF GPT.

Also available, despite the progress against the rejected proposals, is the Finance Bill GPT which provides an understanding of the document many deem too complex to break down or understand.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that uses natural language processing to create humanlike conversational dialogue. The language model can respond to questions and compose written content including articles, social media posts, essays, code, and emails.

It is similar to the automated chat services found on customer service websites, as people can ask questions or request clarifications to ChatGPT's replies.

The GPT stands for "Generative Pre-Trained Transformer," which refers to how ChatGPT processes requests and formulates responses. It is trained with reinforcement learning through human feedback and reward models that rank the best responses.

Finance Bill GPT

Ruto withdrew the Finance Bill, the primary reason for the latest protests. following immense pressure from the public but it seems that was the first step for Gen Z protesters seeking to hold leaders to account for their actions and their effects on the public and the economy.

One Kenyan identified as Kelvin Ndemo on X has uploaded the Finance Bill 2024 in ChatGPT form and details its implications on Kenyans should it be passed.

"If you want to further understand the Finance Bill and its implications, I have created the Finance Bill GPT, a GPT with up-to-date info on the Finance Bill. Use it to understand the bill and ask any questions you may have," Kelvin said in his post and provided a link to the resource.

Corrupt Politicians GPT

Another X user, identified as BenwithSon, has generated an AI platform that provides information about past corruption scandals in which politicians and government officials were involved.

"I have created Corrupt Politicians GPT, which will enable people to retrieve any scandals related to any politician. I have seen some leaders being fronted, and they are [very corrupt]. Use the link below to access the GPT," he posted on his X.

When you query the name of a politician, based on information provided on the web, the platform displays a chronological list of corruption scandals from the oldest to the newest, details of the cases and their outcomes.

The tool also reveals whether the politicians were prosecuted or if they were cleared of the graft allegations. It also cites the sources of each case and prompts users to identify any missing information to improve its accuracy.

Marion Kavengi created the SHIF GPT to provide a breakdown of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) that will replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

One of the latest issues with the SHIF, with the transition set to begin on July 1, is a standoff between the Council of Governors (CoG) and the Ministry of Health over a substantial debt of Sh8 billion owed to county hospitals by the NHIF.

County leaders insist that the arrears must be cleared to avoid financial instability in public health facilities.

Many have praised Gen Zs for these and other efforts in their fight for the public's rights and President Ruto is now expected to facilitate discussions with them on their ideas on fair governance and how to implement them.
